Don’t Be Afraid To Ask Questions by: Kelley Seriano

In the past, I would get so excited about opportunities; agree and trust blindly. This felt great for a few weeks, maybe even months, then I would find out it wasn’t a long term decision I had agreed, it was more of a short term decision. Short term feels good until you look underneath the iceberg and see what details lurk.

A large iceberg with a flat top floats in a dark blue ocean under a cloudy sky. The iceberg's serene white surface contrasts starkly with the dark water and grey clouds, capturing the chill of nature's beauty. As Kelley Seriano reminds us, don't be afraid to ask questions about its mysteries. The Trouble With Not Asking Questions

By not asking questions, I found that I had overcommitted and ended up letting others down or was just scrambling to meet deadlines. In turn, I was also being let down because by not asking questions, I left room for uncertainty of expectations. Yet, when I started asking questions, then second and third level questions, getting underneath the iceberg I felt better balanced and more successful! By asking questions, we learn, by learning, we increase neuroplasticity in our brain.

View from inside a car as Kelley Seriano drives down a sunlit street, glare shining brightly through the windshield. A pedestrian strolls along the left sidewalk, adding life to the dim urban atmosphere, sparking questions about city stories waiting to be discovered.

What is Neuroplasticity?

Neuroplasticity is the brain’s ability to reorganize itself by forming new neural connections. In turn, this will help mitigate the risk of Alzheimer’s and other diseases. Today, I pause and ask good questions that will give me greater insight and control. I found that by asking questions, I build stronger intrapersonal connections, I have the ability to see a much bigger picture and it also puts me in the driver seat and gives me the feeling of control.

There is no dumb question…So ask it!!
